I have been unable to locate any high quality instructional materials for the Adigha language. This web site is my attempt address the issue, and help myself expand my command of the language at the same time.
How to use this site
My materials have been developed from the perspective of an Adigha living in the Diaspora. My work is not meant to serve a comprehensive academic description of the Adigha language; nor should it be considered a comprehensive guide to all facets of the language. Rather, materials on this site have specifically been designed to allow the reader to begin speaking Adighebza as quickly as possible.
Objectives
My main learning program is Adighebza for Beginners. The program has been designed as a primer to provide you with conversational expertise as quickly as possible. The program stresses a core vocabulary of approximately 200 - 300 words, with “word clusters” around this core adding another 200 - 300 words. It also stresses every-day language spoken during normal conversation. The intended result is (or should be) a program that provides you with the basic foundation necessary to develop a more comprehensive mastery through the use of everyday conversation.
Time Line
Adighebza for Beginners is comprised of 30 Lessons and 10 or so Chapter Narrations. Each of the core content areas is completed, but it takes time to script and prepare the content for the multi-media format you find on this site. My hope is to produce a new Lesson every two - three weeks, completing the publishing of all 30 Lessons and 10 Chapter Narrations over the next 18 - 24 months.
Caveats
For the most part, I am a one-man-show. I have a few technical advisors, but what you see here is 90% me. I am not trained as a linguist, an educator, a web guru, or an audio / video specialist, so please bear with me as I figure this all out. Additionally, I am a "quasi-native" speaker of the Adigha language. I grew up with it, and I have a good comfort level with the language, but I have a slight accent, and struggle to pronounce everything perfectly. I have been told that my pronounciation is "good enough" for the purposes of instruction, but take everything with a grain of salt. |
